Online LGBT Rights Course by Wally Suphap in Hong Kong

Wally Suphap is one of our amazing Legal Beagle speakers. He is Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Hong Kong LGBT+ Attorneys Network (HKGALA). Established in 2013, HKGALA is the first-ever professional forum for LGBT+ lawyers and legal professions in Hong Kong, comprised of over 50 law firms and 800+ individual members. Among the key objectives are to champion diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and raise awareness on LGBT+ legal issues. HKGALA was recognized as a finalist for the LGBT+ Network Award in 2015 by Community Business.

Born in Bangkok, Thailand and educated in the United States, Wally received a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, and a Juris Doctor, from Columbia University. Wally is dual qualified to practice law in Hong Kong and New York. Wally started in his legal career at Clifford Chance in New York before relocating to Hong Kong in 2006 where he was a corporate attorney at Skadden Arps and Latham & Watkins, and is currently in-house legal and compliance at an international financial services firm.

In 2018, Wally was ranked #4 on the Financial Times’ Global Top 50 LGBT+ OUTstanding Future Leaders List. In addition, Wally was the recipient of the Hong Kong LGBT+ Inclusion Champion Award from Community Business.

Wally has published on LGBT+ rights in Hong Kong, including an article entitled “Law in Transition: QT v Director of Immigration in Context” published in the Hong Kong Lawyer in August 2018.
