Gender equality is a human right, but our world faces a persistent gap in access to opportunities and decision-making power for women. Globally, women have fewer opportunities for economic participation than men, less access to basic and higher education, greater health and safety risks, and less political rights.
But the changes occurring in the social role of women and men have been observed. Today, the social role of women is evolving in the direction of taking a profession, while increasingly men are taking care of the household. Women have entered into male-dominated roles such as leadership roles, including in politics. The proportion of women who have majored in business, medicine and law has risen significantly. The modern world has created a new role for women, which are gradually approaching that of the traditional social role of men such as working and earning money.
The UN drew global attention to women’s concerns by calling for an International Women’s Year. They made it happen to recognize women every year until today. International Women’s Day events are held worldwide on March 8. This year’s theme: Each for Equal aims to raise awareness against bias. The campaign runs all year long in the purpose of building a gender equal world.
Legal Beagle is joining people around the world to celebrate International Women’s Day. IWD is an opportunity to recognize our female speakers, courses related to gender equality, and employee success. 60% of our courses are women presented. We care to observe and to reflect on those issues that women face especially sexual harassment in the Legal Profession. Accredited by the Law Society of Hong Kong, we have a course called Employee Behaviour and Sexual Harassment (https://legalbeagle.com.hk/product/risk-management-employee-behaviour-and-sexual-harassment/) which helps Legal Professionals understand the definition of sexual harassment from the historical background and law, updates to the law and understand how to evaluate and manage the risk of sexual harassment issues in the workplace. We will also be introducing a new course this year on Bullying and Sexual Harassment in Legal Profession with a portion of the proceeds going to the Women’s Foundation in Hong Kong. At Legal Beagle, we believe that a gender equal world can be healthier, wealthier and more harmonious.
