Course Description
This course, AML Compliance Updates for Law Firms: Navigating Revised Obligations and Risk-Based Approaches, provides legal professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the latest Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), and Counter-Proliferation Financing (PF) requirements affecting legal practice. With a focus on Hong Kong’s 2022 AMLO amendments and the Law Society’s 2023 guidelines, the course also draws insights applicable to firms operating in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the UAE.
Participants will gain practical guidance on conducting risk-based client due diligence, identifying and verifying beneficial ownership, and applying digital identification tools like iAM Smart. The course also explores high-risk service areas—such as conveyancing and trust structures—outlining key red flags and compliance safeguards. Firm-wide and client-specific risk assessments are discussed in depth, along with the use of simplified or enhanced due diligence based on risk profiles.
Designed for lawyers, partners, compliance officers, and legal operations teams, this training equips participants with the tools needed to embed strong AML frameworks, align with evolving international standards, and protect both their firms and the wider legal system from financial crime exposure.
