Legal Beagle Online Training would like to introduce to you our NEW online RME and CPD training course entitled Conflicts of Interest. This online RME and CPD course is accredited by the Law Society of Hong Kong for CPD and RME credits. This course will provide you with some practical guidance on how to recognize, avoid and manage conflicts of interest in your legal practice, which will be essential to your success as a solicitor. The course is divided into three parts.



What is a Conflict of Interest?

The first part of this course will provide an overview of conflicts of interest in Hong Kong which defines a conflict of interest in legal terms, specifically in relation to a solicitor’s duty of care. You all must be familiar with and identifies the types of conflicts that often arise in one’s legal practice. Taking this course will give you a concrete idea of what is a conflict of interest. This will shed some common types that arise in legal practice.

Help you understand the rules governing conflicts of interest for solicitors in Hong Kong as well as the International Code of Ethics for Legal Practitioners.

The second part of the course unpacks the rules governing conflicts in Hong Kong and explores relevant provisions of the standards of professional conduct for solicitors as well as chapters seven and nine of the solicitor’s guide to professional conduct which explore fiduciary detail. But Fiduciary duty in more detail as well as conflict of interest between parties.


How to recognize and manage conflicts of interest in your legal practice?

The third and final part of the course deals with managing conflicts of interests in your legal practice and attempts to provide an overview of what’s commonly referred to as conflicts check systems and the different components of what those must entail and some general observations and things to look out for before you decide to take on any new clients.

Even if you are an experienced solicitor and have a background in managing conflicts of interest, this course, maybe a useful refresher and who knows? You may even pick up some new tips along the way, and for those of you who are new to legal practice or maybe considering going out on your own, this is a great introduction that provides you with some basics and practical guidance on how to recognize, avoid, and manage conflicts of interest in your own legal practice.

This course is taught by Kelly Stone, a lawyer from the United States with more than twelve years of international law experience. Kelly holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology and Philosophy, and has been working to strengthen the capacity of both public and private bodies in adhering to obligations under the law. Kelly is well-versed in legal analysis and research, and has provided technical expertise in developing legal norms and standards, assessing risk management and strategies, and has assisted government actors in developing policies and protocols relating to safety and security. Kelly is also a certified facilitator and has trained government officials, NGOs, and community leaders on a variety of topics, including law, policy, safety and development. In addition, Kelly has a demonstrative publication record, which includes peer-viewed journal articles, book chapters, and opinion pieces.
